PAGASA: Typhoon Luis Update Sept. 13, 2014

Tropical Cyclone Alert: Tropical Storm “#LuisPH” (KALMAEGI)
Issued at 11:00 AM, 13 September 2014

Tropical Storm “LUIS” intensified while moving towards Cagayan-Isabela area.

LOCATION OF EYE/CENTER: At 10:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm “LUIS” was estimated based on all available data at 456 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (14.6°N, 128.4°E).

STRENGTH: Maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph.

MOVEMENT: Forecast to move West Northwest at 17 kph.

FORECAST POSITIONS: Tropical Storm “LUIS” is expected to be at 252 km North Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes by tomorrow morning and at 27 km West Southwest of Tuguegarao City by Monday morning. By Tuesday morning, it is expected to be at 421 km West Northwest of Laoag City.

LUZON: Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Quirino, and Catanduanes

- Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

- Estimated rainfall amount is from 7.5 – 20 mm per hour (heavy - Intense) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

- The combined effect of Tropical Storm “Luis” and the Southwest Monsoon will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Visayas.

- Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

- The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.
