1 killed in New Year's eve shooting in Pangasinan

MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified men onboard a motorcycle shot dead a 36-year-old man in front of a bus terminal in Lingayen town in Pangasinan Wednesday afternoon, a radio report said.

Radio dzRH reported that police are puzzled over the motive in the killing of Baltazar Coteng, 36, a resident of La Trinidad in Benguet province.

The incident occurred at 3 p.m. near the terminal of Victory Liner, when the two men aboard a motorcycle opened fire on Coteng. Police recovered six shells of a cal-.45 pistol from the scene.

Meanwhile, a 73-year-old woman was killed after a motorcycle ran over her while she was heading home in San Carlos City in Pangasinan before noon Wednesday.

Police arrested the motorcycle driver initially identified as Arnel Alansalon, 27, who hit Milagros Rosal, 73, while she was crossing the street.

Alansalon faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
