LINGAYEN KIDNAP ATTEMPT FAILS

Timely coordination of police units in adjacent municipalities foiled the kidnapping of two children from Lingayen, Pangasinan province.

The two kids -- a seven-year old girl and a four-year old boy -- were left unharmed by three unidentified men who hijacked the Toyota Fortuner they were riding in going to school in Lingayen.

The van was abandoned on Arellano-Bani Street in Dagupan City. Luckily, the kids were there. Superintendent Mariano Luis Verzosa, officer-in-charge of the Dagupan police, surmised the suspects abandoned the Toyota Fortuner after seeing policemen ahead conducting checkpoint.

The kids were immediately brought to the police station where they were united with their worried parents.Verzosa said that based on the statement of the father of the two kids, the incident happened when he was bringing his children to school.

He said there were three men involved, one of whom pointed a hand gun on his head when he slowed down along the road due to heavy traffic. When he stopped the engine, he was forced out of the vehicle.

Verzosa said upon receiving the flash report that the suspects were heading towards Dagupan, he immediately ordered the setting up of checkpoints in all entry and exit points of the city.

Supt. Haris Fama, chief of the Lingayen Police, said the suspects carted away a laptop computer from the Toyota Fortuner.

He told mediamen that he received reports that the suspects who abandoned the Toyota Fortuner escaped on foot towards the fishponds in Dagupan where they were pursued.
