117 more cops assigned to Pangasinan

Lingayen (9 July) -- At least 117 new policemen were assigned in Pangasinan to help maintain peace and order and strengthen the fight against crime and insurgency.

Sr. Supt. Isagani Nerez, Pangasinan police provincial director, said the bulk of the new policemen will be assigned with the police mobile groups in eastern and western Pangasinan.

All of them, he said, were trained in counter-insurgency.

The number is apart from the 60 police trainees assigned in various towns of the province, especially the four cities of Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos, who are on on-the job training.

After their on-the-job training for two-months, the 60 will go back to their school and graduate.
Nerez explained that the 117 are actually the quota of Pangasinan Police Office who were screened from several applicants last year before they underwent rigid training under the supervision of the Police Regional Office.

He expects the new policemen to help the police mobile groups maintain law and order in the border areas threatened by insurgency.

Some of them, he said, were assigned to crime-prone areas where police visibility is most needed. (PIA/PNA)
